Handhelds – Have a go

Leica Uno

At the lower end of the Viva GNSS spectrum, are the Uno and Zeno. Based on the CS10 or CS15 Field Controllers, the Uno runs SmartWorx Viva, whereas the Zeno runs Zeno-Field (based on ES

RI ArcPad 8 OEM).

Both are tailored for GIS applications, with ‘Zeno Field’ working in harmony with ‘Zeno Office’, to update spatial databases.

At a glance, the Uno is a quick to learn, easy to use device that can import and export a variety of file formats. For fast data collection, with minimal staff training the Uno is a great tool. If however, a large GIS must be managed and updated with field observations, then the Zeno is the correct product, benefitting from the “Easy In, Easy Out” methodology with the controller and office database working together. Because the hardware components are common, the achievable accuracies are equal; both are SBAS enabled allowing for DGNSS (<1.2m) and Network RTK (<0.4m) correction formats. Note, that at time of this post, a SmartNet Unlimited DGPS license is £750, and a Low-User (40hrs/month) DGPS license is £450.

We have a Zeno/Uno CS15 on our hire fleet, so if you are interested to see the differences between the onboard packages, ask for the GPS hire desk, and have a go!
